Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about hiring moving labor and junk removal with Moving Labor.

Pricing & Cost

Moving labor typically costs $139 per hour for a 2-person crew, with a 2-hour minimum. Most 1-2 bedroom moves cost $280-$560. Larger homes or longer jobs are proportionally priced. We bill in 30-minute increments after the minimum — no rounding up to the nearest hour.
Junk removal starts at $139 for a single item or small load (1/8 truck). A half-truck load costs $299, and a full truck is $499. Prices include labor, truck, and disposal fees. We give you a firm price before we start — no surprise fees.
Yes — typically 40-60% cheaper. Full-service movers charge for their truck, fuel, overhead, dispatch, and profit margin. With Moving Labor, you rent a U-Haul for $30-$80/day and pay only for actual labor hours. Most customers save $200-$600 on a typical move.
No stair surcharges. Our standard hourly rate covers stairs, elevators, tight hallways, and most challenging situations. We may quote slightly higher for extremely heavy specialty items like gun safes, hot tubs, or pool tables — let us know when booking.
We require a small $25 deposit to secure your booking slot. The remainder is due upon job completion. We accept all major credit cards, Venmo, Zelle, and cash.
Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your job start time for a full deposit refund. Cancellations within 24 hours forfeit the deposit. No-shows are charged the 2-hour minimum.
No hidden fees. Our quoted hourly rate is what you pay. Fuel surcharges don't apply within standard service area. The only extras would be additional time beyond your estimate, which is billed at the same hourly rate.

Crew & Quality

Yes. All Moving Labor crews carry liability insurance and Workers' Compensation coverage. This is critical — gig-economy labor platforms often don't cover workers, leaving you potentially liable for injuries. We take care of our crews, which protects you.
Yes. All crew members undergo background checks before they're placed on jobs. We verify identity, run criminal background checks, and reference-check applicants.
Our crews arrive with standard moving equipment: hand trucks, furniture dollies, moving straps, and basic tools for disassembly. We do not bring moving trucks — you rent the truck and we provide the labor.
We assign a crew lead for each job. In most cases the same crew handles your job from start to finish. For large multi-day jobs, we may rotate crews.
Our crews take great care with your belongings. In the rare event of accidental damage, contact us within 24 hours. We carry liability insurance and will work with you to resolve any claims fairly.

Service Areas

We provide moving labor and junk removal across Virginia in 40+ cities. Enter your zip code on our site to confirm availability in your area. Same-day service is available in most Virginia metro areas.
We serve most suburban and rural areas within 50 miles of major cities. Enter your zip code to check availability. Travel fees may apply for locations more than 30 miles from our nearest crew.
We're a labor-only service, so we don't drive trucks between cities. However, we can load your truck in your origin city and arrange separate labor to unload at your destination. Many customers use PODS or ABF trailers for this scenario.

Preparing for Your Move

For moving labor, yes — have boxes packed, sealed, and labeled before we arrive. Unpacked items significantly slow the process. We can assist with furniture disassembly if needed.
Yes — book your truck rental first, then schedule labor. Make sure the truck pickup window overlaps with your labor start time. We recommend having the truck 30 minutes before crew arrival.
You don't need to do much — just make sure we have access to the items. Clear a basic path if possible. We handle all the heavy lifting. Point us to what needs to go and we handle the rest.
For moving labor, someone over 18 must be present to direct the crew, sign off on completion, and process payment. For junk removal, you can leave a crew member in charge if you must step away briefly.
